The Powell County Mapping and Road Location Center oversees all aspects of inclusion, naming and cataloguing of roads in Powell County. Our organization works to locate new roads, assign road names and include them in the Powell County 911 system. We issue 911 certified addresses to residences throughout the county and answer questions regarding the 911 system and geographic locations of streets and residences throughout the county.

The Mapping and Location Center also operates as Powell County’s representative to the National Flood Insurance Program. Our office examines sites in which construction or excavation occurs within the Federal Flood Plane and determines whether or not such actions are acceptable by national standards. We answer questions regarding flood zones in Powell County and work to find satisfactory solutions to flood plane issues that please not only the developer, but also meet Federal guidelines.

The Powell County Mapping and Road Location Center offers a variety of services to the people of Powell County. Common duties associated with our office include but are not limited to:

  • GPS mapping of both roads and structures
  • Issuing of addresses to new residences/businesses in Powell County
  • The creation of detailed maps of the cities and outlying county area
  • Assistance with street location to the public
  • Information on city/county boundaries
  • Assigning street names to new roads in Powell County
  • Cartographic and topographic descriptions of our county’s terrain
  • Explanations of the 911 system and how to guarantee a more efficient response through proper addressing

As your County National Flood Insurance Program representative, our office handles requests on:

  • Meeting state and federal guidelines for new structures
  • Proper excavation of materials
  • Small streams and their effect on larger flooding issues
  • Flood plane boundaries
  • Including and excluding existing structures to and from the current flood plane map
  • Public information on the National Flood Insurance Program
